What is UAD Capitol Studios?
UAD Capitol Studios is a room modeling and reverb plug-in that lets you place your vocals and instruments in Studios A and B, track through vintage mics, mix through Capitol’s consoles, and send to four echo chambers never before available in a plug-in. Runs natively on your macOS or Windows computer.
Get the Sound of a Hollywood Landmark
When the Capitol Tower opened in 1956, its studios were designed to match the building’s futuristic ambition, with precise acoustics and subterranean echo chambers refined by Les Paul himself.
Now you can record vocals, drums, guitars, and more using the exact rooms, microphones, processors, consoles, and famed echo chambers as Capitol Studios A and B — the home of records from Frank Sinatra and Bob Marley to Green Day, Daft Punk, and Billie Eilish.
Record Vocals, Guitars, and Drums in Studios A and B
Many of the records you grew up on were cut at Capitol Studios. Now you can place your vocals, drums, guitars, and more in Studio A or B, giving your tracks the depth, dimension, and character of two of the most celebrated rooms in recording history. Use Reverb mode to keep your original sound and add Capitol’s ambience, or Re-Mic mode to replace your room and mic sound entirely.
Explore Capitol’s Historic Mic Locker
Run your sources through classics from Capitol’s expansive locker, including the U48 Frank Sinatra sang into, plus the C12, U67, and M50, with setups curated by famed Capitol alum Steve Genewick. Then drag any mic around the room and hear the sound change naturally, just as it would in the studio.
Flatter Ensembles with Decca Tree Mic Positioning
Capitol has long been a go-to for strings, horns, and choirs, and this plug-in brings that heritage to your sessions. Capture your sections with three mic positions, including a Decca Tree: a trio of mics at the conductor’s position that gives orchestral recordings a wide, anchored stereo image. Mix the tree’s center and sides independently, and set the walls live or tight to shape the room around your arrangement.
Add Depth with Four New Echo Chambers
Send your tracks to the underground chambers beneath the Tower, with rooms 1, 3, 5, and 8 available in a plug-in for the first time. Use each room’s natural decay exactly as captured or shorten it beyond what’s physically possible, then shape the sound with pre-delay and stereo width controls.
Build Your Perfect Signal Chain with Capitol’s Consoles
Run your tracks through each studio’s console EQs and dynamics, then reach for a rack of Capitol staples: 1176LN limiting, LA-2A leveling, and the Capitol Mastering Compressor, designed by the studio’s own engineers. Arrange EQ, compression, and chambers in any order to build your chain.
